Sadie Forrester-Hayles, 15, has enjoyed a phenomenal running career since starting athletics at the age of 10. In 2008 she walked away with a gold medal from the English Schools Championships and was looking forward to being selected again in 2009. However disaster struck in the form of a hamstring injury which forced Sadie out of the sport for a while. In August 2009 Sadie suffered the same injury on her other leg while competing in the National Championships in Bedford.
Doctors have told Sadie that she is running too fast for her posture and will require intensive physiotherapy treatment if she doesn’t want the injury to re-occur. Part of her treatment means that Sadie will need to have trainers designed specifically for her.
Sadie, who trains four times a week, says: “The donation is fantastic news. I love running so much that I don’t want to give it up. I really want to get back on form and start to win races again.
“Now I have the money from the MARS REFUEL Drinks Fund I can pay for the expensive Physiotherapy sessions that I need and pay for some new trainers. This will allow me to continue training and one day hopefully realise my dream of competing in the Olympics.”
The MARS REFUEL Drink Fund aims to help sports clubs and individuals to play sport for longer. Further information can be found at www.marsrefuel.com.
