Q. If you were a councillor, what would you do or improve to make
Sandwell a better place for young people?
I would get out there and talk to people about issues that affect them and not be the average councillor who sits at a desk and makes decisions for people, rather than WITH people. To be honest I feel like I am already the young hip councillor of Sandwell, because I believe we are making a significant change to many people’s lives now! The top issues that we feel need improving are written in our manifesto, but I would say the top issue for me is Education. To have prestigious colleges and universities in Sandwell is something,
I will strive to obtain as well as abolishing the university fees which UKYP are also working towards achieving. Think how many young people would benefit from this opportunity, the possibilities are endless.

Q. If you were prime Minster for the day what would you do?
What an experience that would be hey! I would cut the budget on warfare. I mean... what’s the need to waste so much money and sacrifice so many lives? As well as maximise the natural resources rather than waste it.

Q. In 2005 less then 40% of 18-24years old's voted in the general election. Why do you think the turn out is so low with young people?
I believe the lack of education provided for young people in terms of political awareness is largely to blame. As a result, young people today don’t realise how important it is to vote. One person alone may find it hard to make a change, but all of us together can make sure changes happen.

Q. So why should we vote?
I think it’s a privilege to vote, and many people have fought to gain this right. Personally I can not wait until I can vote.
I think I am mature enough now to vote at 16. I strongly believe I should have an input on who I believe is the best candidate for running our nation and putting the public at the heart of all decisions. I believe other people should take this on board, or at least consider it, because your vote does make a difference!

Q. What are your hopes for the future?
In the future I would like to go into a career where I am helping people and working with children. I have many options on the cards at the moment from law to medicine,
but as it stands I enjoy living life day to day and seeing what the future has in store! As for the Shadow Youth Cabinet...
‘we have made change, we are making change and we plan
on making change in the future!’
